ATS Acuscope & Myopulse technical information.
WHAT IS THE ELECTRO-ACUSCOPE & MYOPULSE SYSTEM AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
The Electro-Acuscope & Myopulse system is a highly sophisticated electronic medical instrument that is designed to scan and assist in treatment in many painful conditions. The Acuscope is the primary instrument, works directly through the CNS, PNS and my model specifically is also programmed to normalize the autonomic system. Designed with square waveform, this form is scientifically proven to be most efficient when addressing the nervous system. The Acuscope also displays digital readings paired with audible readings which indicate the state of the tissue. With these readings I am provided a map for treatment, this allows me to be more efficient and effective with each consistent session.
The Electro-Myopulse is the companion instrument to the Acuscope. The Myopulse gives me direct access to soft tissue and is designed with a sinusoidal wave form (curved or sloped), scientifically proven to be most efficient when working with soft and connective tissue.
The Acuscope & Myopulse establish a two way communication between their own circuitry and the electrical signals from the area of the patients body being treated. This pre programmed circuitry is designed for ANIMAL cellular norms and comes with a built in biofeedback look that occurs every 5 milliseconds. This biofeedback monitors the tissue and adjusts output sending current only that the body needs during treatment. Because of this over treatment is not possible.
Using this biofeedback technology they measure things such as tissue conductivity and cell capacitance, which is the capacity of the cells to hold a charge.
In order to correct abnormalities within the cells they introduce gentle current waveforms similar to the animals bodies own electrical signals, the Acuscope generates a pulse in which the damaged tissue requires to return to a normal, pain free state. Myopulse sends signals to muscle and other connective tissue so that the cells can begin the work of self repair.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACUSCOPE AND OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICES?
The Acuscope and Myopulse instruments differ from other electrical stimulation devices in that they deliver treatments in micro-amps. Micro-amperage (below 1 milliamp) is the naturally occurring level of current generated by cells throughout the body. Most nerve stimulations devices (TENS) produce milli-amperage current designed to bombard the tissue and simply block pain signals from reaching the brain. This therapy system, in contrast, generates only the level of current required to gently encourage nerve and muscle fiber to return to conduction of normal electrical impulses. Also in contrast, ordinary TENS devices provide only temporary relief, whereas a series of Acuscope and Myopulse treatments have a cumulative, long-term healing effect. In numerous scientific studies, micro-current therapy has been proven to have a profoundly beneficial effect on living tissue. In technical terms, some of the benefits of micro-current therapy at the cellular level are: opening of voltage-sensitive calcium ion channels, normalizing cell membrane potential, restoring the sodium pump function, enhancing protein synthesis, and increasing ATP production (energy production within the body). With this in mind, it is easy to understand why supplying the kind of current that naturally occurs in healthy tissue promotes regenerative metabolic activity.
WHY ARE RESULTS CUMULATIVE AND HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
Mild current stimulation, ideally at the level of 500 uA (micro amps) or less, has been proven (Cheng, 1972) to cause the cells of the body to increase productions of chemical ATP which is responsible for cellular energy production. It has also been shown to increase protein synthesis, the building blocks of tissues, which allows the cells to begin to repair themselves. This low level of current is known to improve certain cellular functions which pump ions (such as sodium, potassium, calcium etc) into the cells. All of these chemical reactions build up with each treatment, the tissue is able to repair itself more completely. The “charge” on the tissue begins to hold and its ability to to generate its own normal energy is restored. In most cases of neuro-muscular pathology, a series of treatments leads to permanent relief.
Chronic conditions often times take substantially longer to find lasting relief. When introducing Acuscope healing is not linear. Often times the body has to work through not only the most prominent problem, but also all of the underlying compensation issues that may be present. Sometimes we will see a major uptick in relief followed by what is seemingly “worse” and then lasting relief and full recovery, this process is deemed a bodies “healing crisis”. Although rare, it can sometimes happen and shouldn’t be evaluated as bad, it is simply the bodies process of recovery in some situations.
This is why I ask for full transparency when dealing with injuries, wounds, and long standing lameness issues. I work with the diagnosing vet and treat according to their long term recovery plan. True recovery isn’t done overnight, so patience and trust in the process yields the best results long term WITHOUT further degeneration of the joints etc.
How often are treatments needed?
- Initial treatments need to be done in a series of 3 treatments, 12 hours apart or over 2-3 days.
- For severe chronic cases or critical cases sessions can be done 2-4 hours apart.
**** Intensity, or time on the instruments, is adjusted based on time between sessions.
- The more frequently or consistently treatments are given, the quicker we can reach a healthy cellular state.
How many sessions will my horse need?
- 25% achieve stability in 1-6 treatments
- 50% achieve stability in 6-12 treatments
- 25% achieve stability in 12-24 treatments
**** For injury or rehab cases - the accepted recovery time can be reduced to 50%. When injury, surgery, or a new wound is involved we will do 30-45 day checkups with the veterinarian to ensure positive progress and to allow me to readjust treatment protocol if necessary.
